Up to half of patients in the U.S. take their medicine incorrectly or not at all. The reasons for this are numerous and complex, including factors such as cost, lack of health literacy, and denial. Over the past several years, there has been a purposeful shift in language away from the term “noncompliant” toward the term “nonadherent."
