What better way to celebrate Women's History Month than reading a great book?

Although my wife and author, Emily, really should be on this list, I can (almost) forgive Powell's since there are so many amazing and enlightening works authored by women from which to choose.  Personally, I'm going with Slouching Towards Bethlehem, by Joan Didion.

Below you'll find our list — compiled following lively debate by Powell's staff — of 25 women you absolutely must read in your lifetime. And so we present to you 25 female writers we admire for their vision, their fearlessness, their originality, and their impact on the literary world and beyond.
