In Healthcare Compliance, Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail

We have all heard this old expression that reminds us that planning is critical to success.  In the realm of healthcare compliance, the principle was reiterated by the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) when it stated: “An ongoing evaluation process is critical to a successful compliance program."  As we move through the third quarter of 2023, this is a great time for organizations to consider whether their compliance plan is being implemented and to assess whether it is effective. OIG and DOJ continue to message to healthcare providers that self-identifying and self-reporting are favored and will be taken into consideration in determining fines and penalties.
