As colleges and universities face the demographic cliff and other challenges in higher education, they also might need to take proactive steps to retain their enrollment leaders, who could be feeling burned out.    

These leaders are departing when the stakes are getting higher in admissions offices. First, you have the declining numbers of high-school graduates, many of whom have growing financial needs. Then, there are the financial challenges at tuition-dependent private colleges and regional public ones. And sometimes presidents’ and boards’ expectations are simply unrealistic, paired with an increased public skepticism about the value of a college degree.
