Where is Leadership Development Headed?

The current and future state of leadership development is front of mind for most employers, and if it isn't, it should be. Companies of various sizes with leaders of all titles, ranging from emerging to C-Suite, are in desperate need of leadership training, but this shouldn't be an off-the-shelf leadership program. Customization to the needs and culture of your organization are key. To maximize effectiveness, these programs should create a safe place that allows vulnerability and also the creativity to tackle people and process issues head on. Sessions of this nature should allow the time and space for strong relationships to be created and cultivated across all arms of the organization, resulting in a group of leaders speaking the same language and locking arms when it comes to creative problem solving and making difficult decisions.

The need for leadership development has never been more urgent. Companies of all sorts realize that to survive in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment, they need leadership skills and organizational capabilities different from those that helped them succeed in the past. There is also a growing recognition that leadership development should not be restricted to the few who are in or close to the C-suite.
